Nepal's climate is incredibly diverse, ranging from subtropical in the southern plains to alpine in the high Himalayas. This variation means you can experience different weather conditions depending on where and when you visit. The country generally experiences five distinct seasons: spring, summer, monsoon, autumn, and winter.
Nepal's weather patterns are largely influenced by its topography and the monsoon.
March to May: Warm days (20-30°C) with occasional showers, rhododendrons bloom.
June to August: Warm to hot, leading into the monsoon season.
June to September: Heavy rainfall, especially in July and August, high humidity.
October to November: Dry and mild (15-25°C) with clear skies, ideal for trekking.
December to February: Mild to cool, with minimums occasionally reaching 0°C in some areas.
During the monsoon season, many trekking trails can become challenging due to heavy rains, landslides, and leeches. However, some lower-altitude treks and areas like the Annapurna foothills can still be rewarding with proper gear. Waterfalls are at their most spectacular, and the landscapes are incredibly lush and green. It's crucial to be prepared for wet conditions, carry appropriate rain gear, and consult local guides for trail conditions.
