Getting There

International

Fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. From Kathmandu, you can reach Lumbini by domestic flight to Bhairahawa Airport (BWA), located just 30 minutes from Lumbini, or by overland journey.

Most nationalities are eligible for a visa on arrival in Nepal, which can be paid for by cash or card. It's recommended to have a passport photo ready to streamline the process.

Domestic

  • By Air: Daily flights connect Kathmandu to Bhairahawa Airport (30 minutes), followed by a 30-minute taxi ride to Lumbini.
  • By Road: Tourist buses run from Kathmandu (8-9 hours), Pokhara (6-7 hours), and Chitwan (4-5 hours).

Overland

  • From India: The nearest border crossing is Sunauli, just 30 minutes from Lumbini. Regular buses connect Gorakhpur and other Indian cities to the border.
  • From Kathmandu: Daily tourist buses depart from Kalanki bus station. Private cars can also be hired for the journey.
